YouTube TV is currently offering long-term subscribers a free Chromecast with Google TV. This is the latest streaming player to come from Google, although unlike previous Chromecast devices, it does not require a connection to a smartphone or other cast-enabled device. Instead, the Chromecast with Google TV comes with its own interface, powered by Android TV.

The YouTube TV streaming service now has millions of subscribers. However, on the way to those millions, the service has encountered multiple price rises with the last one taking the cost up from $50 to $65 per month. That’s a major change from the service that started out at just $35 per month, highlighting the additional cost those, who have been with the service since the start, have endured.

Now, it looks like YouTube TV is rewarding those long-term subscribers with a free gift. Emails are currently being sent out to eligible subscribers confirming the deal and explaining how they can go about claiming their free streaming player.

Considering this is a device that costs $49.99 and is perfectly tuned to work with YouTube TV, it is likely to be a highly useful addition to an existing subscriber’s setup. Or make for a great device in another room in the same home.

Which YouTube TV subscribers Are Eligible?

Right now, it is not entirely clear what Google defines as a “longtime friend” and so there is no way to be sure of whether an individual is eligible or not. Likewise, the YouTube TV website does not specify the terms of the promotion and so, the only way to know for sure will be dependent on whether an email is received or not.

For those that are eligible and receive the email from YouTube TV, then there are some additional caveats to be aware of. The first is that the free Chromecast with Google TV must be redeemed by December 31, 2020. The email will contain a promotional code that can be used to order the device through the Google Store for free, including delivery and taxes.

The other small concession is that YouTube TV is only offering subscribers the Snow Chromecast with Google TV and not the Sky or Sunrise color options. Of course, that’s unlikely to be a major issue considering the streaming player is free. Not to mention, all the YouTube TV deals and promotions on the Chromecast with Google TV have been for the Snow model.
