Locast has expanded once more and this time the free local live TV streaming service has reached the Wilkes Barre, Scranton and Hazleton TV market in Pennsylvania. With the service now live in this location, residents have gained another option for accessing their local live TV channels.
Locast is unlike many other streaming services for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is one that’s solely focused on increasing free access to local live TV channels. Secondly, unlike most services which tend to launch with nationwide access, Locast has slowly been expanding to new parts of the United States.
Today, Locast confirmed that it is now serving residents in the Wilkes Barre, Scranton and Hazleton TV market in Pennsylvania. In total, Locast explains those signing up to the service will be able to stream 16 local TV channels over the internet for free.
With this latest expansion, residents can access news, sports, election, and weather-related local channels and content. The list of confirmed local channels in the area include, WNEP ABC 16, WBRE NBC 28, WYOU CBS 22, WOLF FOX 56, PBS, PBS Kids, Antenna TV, The CW, Bounce, Mystery, LAFF, True Crime.
A slightly quicker expansion than usual
As mentioned, the rolling out of Locast in the U.S. has not been quick. In spite of launching in New York City in January 2018, the service is still only available in 25 locations in the U.S., including the Wilkes Barre, Scranton and Hazleton TV market. With only 24 locations added in almost three years, many are still waiting for the free service to reach their area.
In spite of this, the arrival of the Wilkes Barre, Scranton and Hazleton TV market support has come around quickly, considering it was only yesterday that the service went live in Indianapolis. Locast does not usually make location support announcements quite so quickly, with the previous support arriving for Detroit in September.
Although it is positive to see two locations gaining access to Locast in quick succession, that’s not necessarily an indication that support in other areas will become available at the same rate. Likewise, there are no indications as to which TV market will be next.
